Hyundai Mobis Announces '2045 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap'
Conversion of All Workplace Electricity to Renewable Energy by 2040
Carbon Emission Neutrality by 2045
First Domestic Automotive Industry Membership in Science-Based Targets Initiative
Promotion of RE100 Membership
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Mobis announced on the 12th its '2045 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap' to continuously develop eco-friendly products and technologies for future generations and establish a carbon ecosystem.
The roadmap includes detailed implementation strategies expanding to workplaces, supply chains, product value chains, and local communities, as well as various carbon reduction measures such as innovative technology development and expanding carbon-reducing products based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Hyundai Mobis presented four major strategies for carbon neutrality: ▲ reducing carbon emissions at workplaces through energy transition and efficiency ▲ systematic supply chain management in collaboration with partners ▲ expanding carbon-reducing products in response to industrial paradigm shifts ▲ operating sustainable partnerships to create a green ecosystem.
Through these efforts, Hyundai Mobis aims to reduce carbon emissions to 30% of 2019 levels by 2030, convert all electricity used at global workplaces to renewable energy by 2040, and achieve zero carbon emissions across the supply chain by 2045.
Notably, Hyundai Mobis became the first company in the automotive industry to join the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to achieve carbon neutrality.
SBTi is a global initiative that sets and verifies corporate greenhouse gas reduction targets to comply with the Paris Agreement. It is rare for manufacturing companies to receive global recognition for objective scientific verification of their greenhouse gas reduction targets.
Through this roadmap, Hyundai Mobis emphasized its commitment as a leading mobility technology company to continuously develop eco-friendly products and technologies for future generations and to build a carbon-neutral ecosystem.
In particular, Hyundai Mobis is the first in the domestic automotive industry to join SBTi to achieve carbon neutrality. This step ensures that the scientifically based greenhouse gas reduction targets are objectively verified by a credible global initiative to effectively realize its vision.
Hyundai Mobis is also actively participating in global campaigns for carbon neutrality and is promoting its membership in RE100 (Renewable Energy 100%). RE100 is an international campaign where companies commit to using 100% renewable energy. Hyundai Mobis plans to convert 100% of the electricity used at its global workplaces to renewable energy by 2040, ahead of the RE100 target year of 2050.
Additionally, Hyundai Mobis will join the Korean government-led K-EV 100 campaign for zero-emission vehicle transition, aiming to convert all company-owned or leased vehicles to electric or hydrogen vehicles by 2030. To increase the use of eco-friendly vehicles, more than 200 charging stations will be installed within workplaces.
