Yu has accumulated over 5,000 hours of volunteer work, including sharing side dishes for vulnerable groups, cooking and serving meals at senior citizen cafeterias through the Songi Volunteer Group, Jeongneung 4-dong Volunteer Camp, and Gireum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held a ceremony to commemorate Volunteer Day, encouraging volunteers who demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout the year.
The ceremony, held on the 6th at the Seongbuk-gu Office Multipurpose Hall, was conducted simply without celebratory performances or guests to comply with quarantine rules, but the enthusiasm was higher than ever.
Besides Yu Hae-sun (65), who volunteered over 5,000 hours at the Songi Volunteer Group, Jeongneung 4-dong Volunteer Camp, and Gireum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, 84-year-old elder Won Jong-eon received a district chief’s certificate for volunteering over 1,000 hours providing free meals at senior cafeterias despite his advanced age.
There was also a couple, Kim Ki-cheol (62) and Lee Kyung-ja (54), who each volunteered over 3,000 hours and received silver medals. They engaged in activities such as making and delivering side dishes, making welfare calls, and distributing goods to vulnerable groups.
