[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Productivity Center (Chairman An Wanki, hereinafter KPC) announced on the 10th that it held the '2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Conference.' This was the 13th conference held, attended by about 100 executives from major domestic and international companies and related organizations.

Since the first evaluation began in 1999, DJSI has marked its 23rd year this year and is recognized worldwide for its credibility in sustainability evaluation and investment. Since 2009, KPC has jointly developed and announced DJSI Korea with S&P Dow Jones Indices, a global financial information provider based in the U.S.

At this conference, the current status of sustainability evaluations and analysis of major ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) issues were shared. The participation rate in the DJSI evaluation increased by 38% globally (1,856 companies) and 10% domestically (55 companies) compared to the previous year. Notably, starting this year, companies were given the option to provide the ESG basic data used in the evaluation to investors, enabling more high-quality information to be supplied to the market.

A certification ceremony was also held for domestic companies included in the DJSI. According to this year's evaluation results, 21 domestic companies were included in the DJSI World index. Thirty-two domestic companies were included in the DJSI Asia Pacific index. In the DJSI Korea index, 43 domestic companies, accounting for 21.2% of the 203 evaluated companies, were included.

Chairman An Wanki of KPC said, "As ESG management is required, the difficulties faced by our companies in responding to global ESG evaluations and regulations will increase, such as the institutionalization and expansion of supply chain ESG management and due diligence centered on the global market. However, through the problem-solving process, this can become a new growth opportunity." He added, "KPC will support sustainable growth of companies and promote the creation and growth of the ESG ecosystem together with global ESG evaluation agencies and government ministries."
