Hampyeong-gun Achieves Four Consecutive Years of Selection for the 'Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project'
Selected as 'Seokchanghang'... 8.3 Billion KRW Invested to Improve Fishing Village Infrastructure
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 9th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that ‘Seokchanghang’ has been selected as a target site for the ‘2022 Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
With Seokchanghang selected as a project site this time, Hampyeong-gun will be able to modernize the infrastructure of all the ports and harbors in the region that had been underdeveloped.
Hampyeong-gun achieved the feat of being selected for the ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ for four consecutive years, following Hampyeonghang in 2019, Seokduhang in 2020, and Wolcheonhang in 2021.
The ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ aims to discover differentiated content by utilizing the core resources of fishing villages and to promote marine tourism activation and innovative growth of fishing village areas through systematic development of fishing villages and ports.
Under the vision of ‘Seokchanghang where the sea and people meet and thrive,’ the county plans to invest a total project cost of 8.3 billion KRW (5.8 billion KRW from the national government) to create a wharf and support fishing activities, aiming to restore fishing village functions. The project will be carried out over three years from next year to 2024.
County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “We will revitalize the declining fishing village through the Fishing Village New Deal project,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the project proceeds smoothly.”

Meanwhile, by being selected for the ‘2022 Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ for four consecutive years, Hampyeong-gun is investing a total of 33.5 billion KRW to establish a sustainable foundation for fishing village and port regeneration.
