'CSAT Scores D-1' Court Ruling in Focus
On the afternoon of the 8th, when the first legal battle over the CSAT Life Science II questions took place, examinees who filed for a suspension of execution against the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation came out of the courtroom after the hearing at the Seoul Administrative Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and held a press conference.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The court is likely to deliver a decision on the suspension of execution case related to the '2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) Science Inquiry Area Biology II question error controversy' on the 9th, drawing attention a day before the score announcement. Suspension of execution is a decision to temporarily halt the execution or effect of an administrative disposition when it is recognized that irreparable damage may occur due to the administrative agency's action.
The Seoul Administrative Court Administrative Division 6 (Presiding Judge Lee Jooyoung) held a hearing at 3 p.m. the previous day for a provisional injunction application to suspend the execution of the answer decision disposition filed by 92 Biology II test takers and parents against the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE).
About 30 students and parents listed as applicants attended the court and observed the closed hearing. Shin Dongwook (18) told reporters after the hearing, "I did not realize the question was erroneous and kept calculating, spending more than 10 minutes on one question, and as a result, I had to guess on three questions," adding, "This situation is very unfair."
The legal representative for the applicants emphasized, "Students were taught to exclude negative population counts from the correct answers. This logic also appeared in the 2015 CSAT questions," and added, "Students could not solve the problem because there was no correct answer."
With only one day left until the score announcement, it is highly likely that the decision on the suspension of execution case will be made on this day. If the applicants' request is accepted, the notification of scores for Biology II test takers is expected to be delayed.
Earlier, on the 2nd, test takers filed a main lawsuit demanding the cancellation of KICE's answer decision, claiming there was an error in question 20 of Biology II. The first hearing for the main lawsuit will be held on the 10th at the same court.
