President Moon: "The Declaration of the End of the War is the First Step Toward Peace and Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula"
2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministers' Meeting Opening Ceremony Video Congratulatory Address
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in stated on the 7th during a video congratulatory speech at the '2021 Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting' held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, that "a declaration of the end of the war is the first step toward peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula."
President Moon said, "Through a declaration of the end of the war, I hope the international community will join together to create a new order of reconciliation and cooperation, achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula, and furthermore, peace in Northeast Asia and the world."
President Moon welcomed the holding of the Seoul UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting, saying, "I was looking forward to meeting you all in person in Seoul, but unfortunately, I am greeting you via video," and added, "Peace is the earnest wish of all of us."

View original imagePresident Moon said, "We have never stopped marching toward peace. We know peace does not come easily, but I believe that eventually more humanity will live in peace."
He continued, "The world now faces new challenges. Violent extremism, cyber threats, and terrorism using new technologies are spreading," and stated, "To conduct effective and safe peacekeeping operations, we must cooperate more closely than ever, and strengthen technology and medical capabilities throughout the entire process?from ceasefire monitoring and maintaining security to post-conflict recovery."
President Moon explained, "With the help of the UN, Korea overcame the devastation of war and became the first developing country to leap into a developed country. Korea currently dispatches about 600 personnel to UN peacekeeping operations and fulfills its role as one of the top ten financial contributors."
He added, "Korea understands better than anyone the importance of UN peacekeeping operations for peace and reconstruction. We will actively contribute more. We pledge to take the lead in establishing smart camps by utilizing Korea’s ICT technology and digital capabilities."
President Moon also said, "We will dispatch additional medical personnel to peacekeeping missions where Korean troops are active. We will cooperate in training medical personnel and engineers with other contributing countries and assist in expanding equipment."

He concluded, "Korea aims to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from 2024 to 2025. Korea has valuable experience growing from a recipient country to a donor country. We hope to contribute to peacebuilding and conflict prevention activities."
