Special Exhibition by Artists Kim Jongsuk and Lee Sehyun 'Landscape' Held Until the 15th
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The special exhibition "Landscape" by artists Kim Jongsuk and Lee Sehyun is being held at Artcode Gallery in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, until the 15th.
Since 2005, Kim Jongsuk has been using crystals from the jewelry brand Swarovski as materials for her artworks. Her crystal painting series "Artificial Landscape" is a modern reinterpretation of traditional East Asian landscape paintings.
The vast canvas, filled flawlessly with white opal and pearl gemstones, is densely packed with repetitive arrangements of similar textures. The majestic mountain scenery evokes an infinite grandeur.
Lee Sehyun is well known for his series "Between Red." He depicts landscapes using only red on a pure white canvas. The scenes he captures are inspired by Tongyeong, where he spent his childhood, and the surrounding Hallyeosudo area.
Lee Sehyun served in the military at the front lines. While on night watch duty, he observed the front landscape hidden in darkness through an infrared telescope. The breathtaking scenery was illuminated in red light. This experience drew him deeply into red landscapes. The color red symbolizes life while simultaneously expressing wounds.
