This move reflects his determination to protect public safety and establish a social safety net for the vulnerable, marking his first activity as the Vice Chairman for the Vulnerable.
After visiting the Trauma Support Center, Yoon told reporters, "We will provide substantial support and investment for the prevention of crime, which is the most fundamental duty of the state, as well as for the recovery and overcoming of victims."
He pointed out, "There are many stories that the state does not properly treat what is called post-traumatic stress disorder," adding, "There are centers with professional capabilities operating to help victims of the five major violent crimes?murder, robbery, sexual violence, etc.?overcome mental trauma, but upon investigation, it was found that there is still a significant shortage of personnel and budget, making it inevitable that victims are neglected."
He continued, "During my time as a prosecutor, I maintained an organic relationship with victim support centers, ensuring that during criminal investigations, victims were always linked with victim support centers to follow support procedures," and said, "I felt a lot after visiting the counseling institutions."
He also stated, "Protection of perpetrators is sufficiently guaranteed by procedural human rights laws," but added, "Victims' human rights are being neglected too much."
Following this, Yoon visited the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Situation Room and encouraged them, saying, "There will likely be a high demand for security at the end of the year, so I ask for your best efforts."
Yoon’s activities on this day were carried out as a social reminder amid recent violent crimes such as the Incheon stabbing incident and stalking cases. It is also interpreted as a critique aimed at Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, who argued for a 'diminished responsibility due to mental incapacity' defense for his nephew who committed murder.
