A Fine of 30 Million KRW Imposed on Mnet's Vote-Manipulated 'Idol School'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Korea Communications Standards Commission held a plenary session and imposed a fine of 30 million KRW on Mnet's 'Idol School.'
According to the Commission, 'Idol School' arbitrarily changed the method of calculating viewer voting results over nine episodes, which led to changes in the successful and eliminated girl group members.
Additionally, the Commission decided to impose a fine of 10 million KRW on SBS Biz's 'Saengsaeng Economy Info Talk Talk' for broadcasting false content by featuring fabricated case subjects and experts.
Furthermore, KBS-2TV's 'Idol Rebooting Project The Unit' received a 'warning' for incorrectly entering participants' prior online scores in the audition program, resulting in the selection of three members different from the voting results.
Other warnings were issued to Silver iTV's 'Health Today' for displaying a phone number in subtitles that connects to a hospital affiliated with a cast member; tVN's 'You Quiz on the Block' for specifically mentioning the features of a product through indirect advertising; Home & Shopping's 'Easy 119 Fire Extinguisher' for broadcasting content that could cause confusion between a simple digestive aid and a fire extinguisher; and YTN for airing three beer commercials during restricted advertising time slots.
