'Notre-Dame de Paris' Seoul Performance Concludes Successfully... Achieves 99% Paid Seat Occupancy Rate
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The French original production of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris successfully concluded its three-week run in Seoul.
The production company Mast Entertainment announced on the 6th, "During the three-week performance period, the show achieved an astonishing 99% paid seat occupancy rate, marking a successful start to the new world tour."
Notre-Dame de Paris is a musical based on the novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by the French literary master Victor Hugo. Set in 15th-century Paris, it explores complex human desires and love through characters such as Quasimodo, the hunchback bell-ringer of Notre-Dame Cathedral who is devoted to the beautiful gypsy woman Esmeralda; the cathedral’s archdeacon Frollo, consumed by desire; and Phoebus, the captain of the guard caught between two women.
In Korea, the musical first premiered in 2005, captivating audiences with its sung-through format without spoken dialogue, grand stage design, and vibrant, dynamic choreography. It set the record for the highest audience attendance in the shortest period at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and broke its own record the following year. This season, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it continued to captivate audiences with an emotionally powerful performance that transcended language barriers.
