2720 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide by 6 PM: "Highest Ever for Same Time Slot"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] As of 6 PM on the 2nd, the number of new COVID-19 cases recorded stood at the 2,700 range, marking the highest count for the same time period.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 PM on this day, a total of 2,720 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This is the highest record for the same time frame as of 6 PM. It is an increase of 380 cases compared to the same time the previous day (2,340 cases).
Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0 AM on the 3rd is expected to increase further. The nationwide new confirmed cases announced as of midnight on the 2nd were 5,266, the highest ever recorded.
Looking at the regions where cases were confirmed by 6 PM, the metropolitan area accounted for 1,890 cases (69.5%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 830 cases (30.5%).
By city and province, the numbers are Seoul 930, Gyeonggi 717, Incheon 243, Chungnam 136, Busan 131, Gyeongbuk 82, Daegu 81, Gyeongnam 78, Chungbuk and Gangwon 75 each, Daejeon 51, Gwangju 36, Jeonbuk 28, Jeonnam 26, Jeju 19, Ulsan 10, and Sejong 2. All 17 cities and provinces reported confirmed cases.

The fourth domestic wave, which began in early July, has continued for nearly five months. The number of new confirmed cases reported daily over the week starting from the 26th of last month were 3,896 → 4,067 → 3,925 → 3,308 → 3,032 → 5,123 → 5,266, averaging about 4,088 cases per day. Excluding imported cases, the average daily number of locally transmitted confirmed cases is approximately 4,059.
