Gwangju Reports 29 New COVID-19 Cases... Sporadic Infections in Daycare Centers, Schools, and Other Cities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Sporadic COVID-19 infections continue in daycare centers, schools, and other locations in Gwangju.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 1st, 29 people tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day in Gwangju, classified as cases 6286 to 6314.
One person related to Middle School B in Seo-gu, one person related to Bathhouse B in Buk-gu, one person related to a religious facility in Gwangsan-gu, five people related to a daycare center in Buk-gu, three people related to an insurance company in Dong-gu, one person related to a kindergarten in Seo-gu, four people related to confirmed cases from other cities/provinces, three people related to previously confirmed cases, and two people related to a medical institution in Seo-gu
and six people under investigation (symptomatic testing).
Two people related to manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu are Vietnamese nationals, and it was found that the infection started from a workplace colleague. The index patient related to manufacturing tested positive during an inspection related to a daycare center in Gwangsan-gu, and subsequent full testing of the manufacturing company confirmed additional infections. As a result, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to manufacturing reached 16.
One person related to a religious facility in Gwangsan-gu attended a facility mainly frequented by foreigners, with a cumulative total of 24 confirmed cases including new infections.
Three people related to an insurance company in Dong-gu were infected through company golf meetings and contact with previously confirmed cases, resulting in a cumulative total of 12 confirmed cases.
Confirmed cases related to Bathhouse B in Buk-gu were early vaccine recipients whose last vaccination was over five months ago, classified as breakthrough infections. The cumulative number of confirmed cases at Bathhouse B is now 46.
Among five confirmed cases related to a daycare center in Buk-gu, four and one case related to a kindergarten in Seo-gu were all either in quarantine or tested positive before release from quarantine, with cumulative confirmed cases totaling 32 and 26, respectively.
The two confirmed cases related to a medical institution in Seo-gu are family members of patients or resulted from secondary infections, bringing the cumulative total to 15.
One person related to Middle School B in Seo-gu tested positive after overlapping with the movement path of a previously confirmed case at an academy.
Among confirmed cases from other cities/provinces, three are from Jeonnam and one from Gyeonggi-do. Among cases related to previously confirmed patients, a city bus driver in Gwangju tested positive, prompting health authorities to plan partial suspension or reduction of some bus routes.
In addition, health authorities are conducting in-depth epidemiological investigations on six people under investigation due to symptoms.
