[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] As Professor Lee Soo-jung of the Department of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University was recruited as the co-chair of the People Power Party's joint election countermeasures committee, on the 29th, Hyun Geun-taek, spokesperson for the Democratic Party's election countermeasures committee, criticized, "Honestly, can't she say 'I am very interested in politics. I want to try being a member of the National Assembly'?"
On the same day, Lawyer Hyun posted an article titled "Lee Soo-jung and Politics" on his Facebook, saying, "If she is not interested in politics, is there a need to hang around Yeouido every election season?"
He shared an interview article in which Professor Lee revealed that she decided to join the People Power Party after seeing Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate's defense in a dating murder case, and pointed out, "Anyone would think that someone who was not interested in politics and was neutral chose the People Power Party."
He then questioned Professor Lee, "Was becoming a member of the Future United Party (now People Power Party) Sexual Violence Special Committee in July 2020 influenced by the Democratic Party? Was becoming a member of the People Power Party's by-election primary preparation committee in October 2020 also influenced by the Democratic Party? Was becoming an advisor to then Seoul mayoral candidate Na Kyung-won in February 2021 influenced by the Democratic Party?"
He continued, "How long will you keep making other excuses for your choices?" and directly attacked, "Wouldn't it be right to resign from the election committee chairperson position and work in a civic organization even now?"
Meanwhile, on the 30th, Professor Lee said on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show" regarding her joining the People Power Party's election committee, "There was a gap in Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate's pledges."
She stated, "If I liked (Yoon's policies for women or policies for the vulnerable), I wouldn't have needed to join. The problem was that I didn't like them very much," and added, "I thought there needed to be someone who could explain more specifically what kinds of problems are happening on the ground."
