Members of the Tongyeong City Council visited the site of the monorail accident on Yokji Island, where it derailed and fell.

Earlier, around 2 p.m. on the 28th, the Yoksido monorail derailed and fell 4 to 5 meters down while entering the lower platform with passengers on board.
Eight male and female tourists in their 50s to 70s were injured and transported to hospitals by helicopter and other means for treatment.
The city and the Tourism Development Corporation have dispatched staff from related departments to each hospital to assess the condition of the injured and are preparing measures to support the victims and their families.
Chairman Son Kwaehwan apologized to the victims and their families affected by the accident and instructed the person in charge to review the slope improvement and route adjustment of the monorail terminal section.

Chairman Son said, “We will promptly analyze the cause of the accident to prevent the same accident from happening again,” and added, “We will prepare compensation and support measures so that the injured can focus on their treatment.”
