DRAM, November Contract Price 'Stable'... NAND Flash Also Unchanged from Previous Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The fixed transaction prices of DRAM and NAND flash, representative memory semiconductors, remained at the same level in November as the previous month.
According to market research firm DRAMeXchange on the 30th, the average fixed transaction price of DDR4 8Gb 1Gx8 2133MHz, a general-purpose product for PC DRAM in November, was $3.71, the same as the previous month. This product's fixed transaction price had fallen by 9.51% in the previous month compared to September. Generally, DRAM fixed transaction prices show significant changes in the first month of the quarter when manufacturers and customers sign contracts.
TrendForce explained, "The laptop sales volume in the 4th quarter is expected to be similar to that of the 3rd quarter, so PC manufacturers' DRAM inventory has decreased from 11-13 weeks to 9-11 weeks," adding, "there is a possibility that manufacturers will increase inventory."
TrendForce forecasted that DRAM prices will continue to decline until the first quarter of next year due to oversupply and the off-season effect. They expected PC DRAM prices to mainly decrease, projecting about a 10% drop compared to the 4th quarter of this year. However, in the second quarter of next year, the decline in DRAM prices is expected to slow down due to the expanded use of DDR5.

The average fixed transaction price of NAND general-purpose products (128Gb 16Gx8 MLC) recorded $4.81, the same as last month. TrendForce stated, "There was no significant change in NAND supply and demand," and added, "Customers faced restrictions in purchasing NAND due to production disruptions caused by shortages of other semiconductor components." TrendForce expects NAND prices to remain unchanged in December as well.
