Gwangju Seo-gu Council's Standing Committee Approves 'School Admission Preparation Fund Support Ordinance'
Representative Legislation by Assemblyman Jung Woo-seok
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The “Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Admission Preparation Fund Support Ordinance,” proposed by Jeong Woo-seok, a member of the Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City, was approved at the 1st Social and Urban Committee meeting of the 2nd regular session of the 300th assembly.
The ordinance was established based on higher laws such as the Framework Act on Education and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to realize equal educational opportunities and universal educational welfare.
Once the ordinance is implemented, it is expected that about 6,400 new students entering schools in Seo-gu, including special schools, will benefit next year.
The admission support fund is intended to be widely used for purchasing school uniforms, books, smart educational devices, and the support amount is expected to be around 100,000 KRW for elementary school entrants and 250,000 KRW for middle and high school entrants.
Councilor Jeong Woo-seok said, “This will reduce the economic burden of Seo-gu parents with children entering school and eliminate educational blind spots,” adding, “I will wholeheartedly stand by the citizens so that students in the district can receive the best educational welfare services in an equal and happy educational environment.”
