Suwon City Council to Build Independent Office Building... 43.7 Billion Won Invested
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Suwon City Council in Gyeonggi Province will end its 30-year cohabitation and have its own independent building.
On the 29th, Suwon City announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Suwon City Council building at 13, Hyowon-ro 235beon-gil, Paldal-gu, next to Suwon City Hall.
The Suwon City Council building will have a total floor area of 12,539㎡, with 3 basement floors and 9 above-ground floors, and a construction cost of 43.7 billion KRW. The completion target is October 2023.
The building will house the main assembly hall, seminar rooms, a multipurpose lounge, rest areas, and offices for the 37 city council members.
The first floor of the council building will feature a multipurpose conference room and rest areas for public communication, where public hearings can be held. The site of the council building has been used as a parking lot for city hall officials and visitors.
The Suwon City Council building has received preliminary certification as a 'Zero Energy Building,' a green building that minimizes energy use and utilizes renewable energy.
The Suwon City Council, consisting of 37 members, has used the 3rd and 4th floors of the main city hall building since 1991 without an independent building.
Among local governments with populations over 500,000, Suwon City is the only one without an independent council building.
Among the 31 city and county councils in Gyeonggi Province, only Suwon City Council, Osan City Council with 7 members, and Yangpyeong County Council do not have independent buildings.
The groundbreaking ceremony included an overview of the construction project, commemorative speeches by Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon, and Jo Seok-hwan, Chairperson of Suwon City Council, as well as congratulatory speeches by local members of the National Assembly and Jang Hyun-guk, Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council.
