Suwon Seulgisaem Children's Library Korea Public Design Award
Creating Spaces Tailored for the Twin Generation... Also Operated as Local Community Spaces
Suwon Seulgisaem Children's Library will receive the Korea Public Design Award (Prime Minister's Award). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation announced on the 29th that Seulgisaem Children's Library's "Twin Wave: Library Project Exclusively for the Twin Generation" received the highest score in the recent project evaluation. The Twin Generation refers to those aged 12 to 16, between children and adolescents. Seulgisaem Children's Library involved them in the creation of the space to develop a customized environment, including a creative space, an open kitchen, and a hill resting area. It will also be operated as a space for the local community. The grand prize goes to "Dingadong 2nd Street - Jungnang-gu Youth Community Center" in Jungnang-gu, Seoul. Excellence awards go to "Huam Majung" in Huam-dong, Seoul, the space innovation project "Place Ddottot" at Hallim Girls' Middle School in Jeju, the EBS Yeonpung-gil development project in Paju, and the National Arboretum's "Supi Orae."

In the academic research category, "A Study on Pedestrians' Safety Perception and Gaze Characteristics Regarding Walking Environments (Park Sohyang et al.)" won the grand prize. This study analyzed differences in gaze responses based on individual pedestrian characteristics on roads without pedestrian paths. It was evaluated as contributing to creating safer walking environments. The excellence award went to "Research on Online Museum Exhibition Design to Enhance Educational Experience (Hwang Jungwon)," and the special award went to "A Study on Spatial Configuration and Correlation of COVID-19 Infection Defense Spaces (Jung Taejong)." In the non-competition category, "Forest of Imagination" at Daewon Elementary School in Changwon was selected as the grand prize winner. Public media art Wave and the Smart Seoul Map accessibility information service for mobility-impaired persons received excellence awards. Habin PMZ Peace Art Center, Songjeong-dong Miracle Playground, and the Gangdong Safe Way Home Design Manual Expansion Project were selected as finalists. The awards ceremony will be held on the 17th of next month at Culture Station Seoul 284 RTO. The winning works will be exhibited online through the Public Design Comprehensive Information System.
