If Sohn runs, this will be his fourth bid for the presidency. Sohn previously ran as a candidate in the presidential primaries of the United Democratic New Party and the Democratic United Party in the 17th and 18th presidential elections, respectively, but finished in second place both times. In the 19th presidential election, he challenged in the People's Party primary but was defeated by Ahn Cheol-soo, the leader of the People's Party.
