View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Hong Jun-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, raised his voice of criticism again regarding Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, and the controversy over his 'nephew's murder case defense.'
On the 27th, Hong wrote on his Facebook, "The skill of disguising a brutal murder case as dating violence is similar to the skill of disguising the Daejang-dong corruption as the People Power Party gate." He added, "Posing as a prosecutor, posing as a bachelor, and even posing as a presidential candidate?this is truly a dirty presidential election," and "That's why I will take a break from this presidential election."
Earlier, on the 26th, Hong also pointed out on his youth platform 'Youth's Dream' that "A candidate from a family of murderers and a brutal candidate should not become president." This is interpreted as criticism aimed at Lee's side, which has been embroiled in controversy over defending his nephew's murder case.
On the 24th, Lee wrote on his Facebook, "One of my relatives committed a serious crime of dating violence in the past," and "Since the family could not afford to hire a lawyer, I, the only lawyer in the family, had no choice but to take on the defense." He also added, "Dating violence is a serious crime that brings unhappiness to everyone and destroys lives tragically."

However, criticism followed regarding Lee's use of the term 'dating violence' in the process of apologizing. Critics argued that it was an attempt to downplay the serious crime of murder. In response, Lee explained, "There is no intention whatsoever to conceal the case by calling it dating violence," and "I fully understand the immeasurable pain caused by heinous crimes."
