According to AP and AFP news agencies, President Zeman, who was hospitalized last month for treatment of liver disease and other conditions and then discharged, underwent a COVID-19 test immediately after arriving at his residence in Prague on the day. Just a few hours after discharge, he tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital again for treatment.
The hospital explained that President Zeman had previously received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and showed no symptoms.
Due to this positive diagnosis, all of President Zeman's official schedules have been postponed. He was scheduled to appoint Petr Fiala, the prime minister candidate who won the election, as prime minister on the 26th.

President Zeman suffers from diabetes and is known for heavy drinking and smoking. The news agencies added that he has had difficulty moving and has been using a wheelchair. He was urgently transferred to the hospital and has been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit since October 10, the day after the election.
