Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, "If Economic Recovery Delays, Daily Life Recovery Support Fund Will Be Provided Next Year"
From the 16th, Cluster Infections Among Elementary and Middle School Students... 41 Confirmed Cases in 12 Schools
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Kwon Oh-bong, mayor of Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 23rd that “if the difficulties in citizens' lives continue after analyzing the economic recovery trend following the phased return to daily life, a supplementary budget will be prepared early next year to provide daily life recovery support funds to all citizens.”
He asked for citizens' understanding for not being able to provide the support immediately at this point, saying, “We will carefully decide the timing of the payment to maximize the support effect.”
Since the phased return to daily life began in November, promises and gatherings have increased, and restaurants and lodging businesses are regaining vitality, but confirmed cases and critically ill patients are increasing nationwide.
Mayor Kwon said, “Recently, our city also experienced cluster infections among elementary and middle school students, with 41 confirmed cases in 12 schools,” adding, “Since elementary and middle school students are either not eligible for vaccination or have low vaccination rates, making them very vulnerable to infection compared to adults, we have decided to conduct comprehensive testing for daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary and middle school students through meetings with Jeollanam-do, the Provincial Office of Education, and Yeosu Education Support Office,” urging parents for active cooperation.
Yeosu City will operate two temporary screening clinics exclusively for kindergarten and elementary and middle school students at Jinnam Gymnasium and Mangma Gymnasium from the 23rd to the 28th. The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a one-hour break from 1 p.m., and during this period, general public testing will not be available.
However, health center screening clinics will operate continuously.
Currently, the COVID-19 vaccination completion rate in Yeosu City is 79.4%. The vaccination rate for children and adolescents aged 12 to 17 is 52.1% for the first dose and 19.8% for full vaccination.
Meanwhile, as the cluster infection among elementary and middle school students spread since the 16th, all schools in the Yeosu area switched to remote classes from the 19th to the 26th.
