Korea-Costa Rica Trade and Investment Forum Held... Exploring Economic Cooperation Measures
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korean and Costa Rican businesspeople met to explore ways to cooperate in trade and investment.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 24th, the "Korea-Costa Rica Trade and Investment Forum" was held at the Seoul Hilton Hotel on the occasion of the state visit of Carlos Alvarado Quesada, President of Costa Rica. From Costa Rica, 15 government officials and businesspeople including President Alvarado, Minister of Foreign Trade Valenciano, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Solano attended, while 75 government officials and businesspeople from Korea, including Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook and Korea International Trade Association Chairman Koo Ja-yeol, participated.
At the event, following the keynote speech by the Costa Rican president, congratulatory remarks by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the opening address by the Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, both sides discussed promising industries for Korea-Costa Rica cooperation and ways to advance into those sectors. A signing ceremony for the "Korea-Costa Rica Trade and Investment Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)" between the Trade Association and the Foreign Trade Promotion Agency was held, agreeing to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Moon Seung-wook stated in his congratulatory speech, "With the full implementation of the Korea-Central America FTA, which includes Costa Rica and four other Central American countries, in March this year, the economic cooperation foundation between the two countries and the Korea-Central America region has been solidified. Based on this economic cooperation, Korean companies will be able to participate in various business sectors for the post-pandemic economic recovery of the Central American region, including digital transformation, climate change response, and infrastructure development."

Furthermore, Minister Moon proposed the directions for expanding economic cooperation between Korea and Costa Rica as ▲ expanding trade by increasing utilization of the Korea-Central America FTA ▲ cooperation in clean energy such as hydrogen ▲ cooperation in infrastructure construction ▲ close health and medical cooperation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis between the two countries, aiming to revitalize the economy and expand and develop trade and investment.
