Samsung Engineering disclosed that it signed a contract the day before with Saudi state-owned oil company Aramco for the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) of the 'Jafurah Gas Processing Package 1 Project.' Samsung Engineering explained that the contract amount will be disclosed later in accordance with confidentiality agreements with the client.
This project is part of the development of the Jafurah shale gas field located 400 km east of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Samsung Engineering is responsible for constructing the gas processing facility that removes acidic gases such as sulfur compounds and impurities from the gas mixture to produce high-purity gas. With this order, Samsung Engineering will participate in Saudi Arabia's first shale gas field project.
Saudi Arabia plans to continuously increase shale gas development as part of diversifying production to respond to global demand and reduce dependence on crude oil. The Jafurah gas field is Saudi Arabia's first shale gas field, with estimated reserves reaching 200 trillion cubic feet (ft³). Saudi Arabia aims to become the world's third-largest gas producer based on this.
Since its first order in 2007, Samsung Engineering has been carrying out large-scale projects for Aramco. The company plans to leverage its long-standing partnership with Aramco and the know-how and technology gained from previous Aramco gas processing facility projects to drive the success of this project.
