Jeonnam Fire Department Enhances Response Capability with 'Fire Simulator'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Provincial Fire Department (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 22nd that it has developed and will utilize a fire simulator to enhance the fire suppression capabilities of on-site personnel.
The fire simulator created by the Jeonnam Provincial Fire Department is designed to understand the characteristics of fire through combustion phenomena using a scaled-down model. The exterior is made of steel, and the interior is constructed with interchangeable plywood panels.
It models actual buildings or houses. It is divided into four rooms, allowing observation of the fire’s occurrence, growth, decay, and extinction processes by assuming a fire outbreak in a specific room.
Additionally, it enables verification of the flow of fire and smoke within the building due to the fire, and direct observation of special phenomena that may occur during fire growth, such as backdraft, flashover, and rollover.
The Jeonnam Provincial Fire Department expects this to help on-site personnel understand the process of fire growth and strengthen their ability to respond to special phenomena that may pose risks to firefighters during actual suppression activities.
Chief Ma Jaeyoon stated, “When entering the scene, there are many cases where the overall situation is not recognized, and difficulties arise in an instant,” adding, “We plan to use this to improve the understanding of fire progression and the ability to respond to emergency situations.”
