Song Young-gil: "Time for Change... Let's Increase Each Lawmaker's Approval Rating by 1%p Weekly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 21st about the party's presidential campaign committee, "It is a time when change is needed," and added, "We must run with the mindset of increasing the approval rating by 1 percentage point each week for the remaining 15 weeks until the presidential election."
At the members' meeting held at the National Assembly that afternoon, Leader Song said, "We need to abandon arrogance and arrogance, break away from being out of touch with public sentiment, and change ourselves until we win the hearts of the people," and stated, "Now is a time when 'Lee Jae-myung does it' is less needed than 'Lee Jae-myung changes it.'"
Regarding the campaign committee, he said, "The goal of being one team has been achieved to some extent, but there is a frustrating image that the space for ordinary citizens and external figures to join seems blocked," and added, "There are also criticisms that there is a lack of agility in quick decision-making and responding promptly to the demands of the people. There is a need to accept all these aspects and reorganize the campaign committee anew."
To the lawmakers, he requested, "Since social distancing has been eased, please meet as many party members and residents in your constituencies as possible," and urged, "Especially in vulnerable areas including the Yeongnam region where there are no incumbent lawmakers, please actively dedicate your weekends to meet with the people and party members. Please refrain from private schedules on weekends and go all out to enter among the people, meet party members, educate, and communicate."
Leader Song also said he would reflect this process in candidate nominations. He emphasized, "The standard for all nominations will be judged based on how much one has devoted themselves to this presidential election," and added, "I am encouraging each city and provincial council member in the same way. I am demanding that they run as if it were their own election with the attitude that if we lose this presidential election, the local elections will be practically difficult."
He also urged efforts in media response. Leader Song said, "Before blaming the media environment, it is necessary to kindly explain to reporters, explain the candidate's and party's positions, and have a proactive attitude to persuade for more accurate reporting rather than just criticism."
