WHO: "Up to 500,000 Additional Deaths Possible in Europe by March Next Year Due to Resurgence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that if emergency measures are not taken regarding the resurgence of COVID-19 in Europe, additional deaths could exceed 500,000 by March next year.
On the 21st (local time), according to the BBC, Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, described the spread of COVID-19 in the region as "very concerning" and made this statement.
Director Kluge attributed the resurgence of COVID-19 in Europe to factors such as the low vaccination rate entering the winter season and the prevalence of the highly contagious Delta variant.
He emphasized the need to increase vaccination rates, apply basic public health measures, and introduce new treatments. He also advised strengthening mask-wearing.
