'Gwangyang Steelworks and Together with Children Strong Mind Project' Launch Ceremony Held
Emotional Therapy and Childcare Environment Improvement Project for Children in Childcare Facilities
First Launch Ceremony This Year... Supported by POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, Running Until June Next Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) announced on the 19th that it held the launch ceremony of the ‘Strong Minds for Children Project’ at Jungma Senior Welfare Center, supporting the healthy growth of children in the local community.
The launch ceremony was graced by the attendance of Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, Kim Kyung-ho, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang City, and Park Soo-bong, Head of the Jeonnam Branch of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.
The ‘Strong Minds for Children Project’ is a program that provides emotional therapy to children in group homes* and child care facilities in Gwangyang City who need care and mental healing, while also improving the caregiving environment of each facility. Approximately 35 million KRW is supported by the ‘POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation,’ funded by 1% of POSCO employees’ salaries, and this is the first year the project is being implemented.
After the launch ceremony, Gwangyang Steelworks will provide play, music, and art therapy to 34 protected children in the region who need care, promoting cognitive-emotional and psychological stability, as well as language therapy such as speech correction.
For four group homes and child care facilities in the area, necessary supplies for the children’s living spaces will be provided, and support will be given for repairs or reinforcements where needed. This is expected to help the children using the facilities live more comfortably.
Additionally, various volunteer groups from Gwangyang Steelworks specializing in electricity, wallpapering, computer and coding education, soccer classes, and traditional games culture will utilize their talents to carry out customized volunteer activities for each facility, drawing even more attention.
On this day, Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “I hope this project leads to emotional communication with the children as well as practical therapy,” adding, “Going forward, Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to discover and implement various social contribution projects that deliver warm support to future generations of children in need.”
