Jeonnam Province Explores Development Plans for 'Making Jeonnam a Forested Area'
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 19th that it held a workshop for ‘Creating Jeonnam in the Forest’ to lead the Blue Economy.
The workshop held at Boseong Yunjelim was attended by more than 80 members of the Creating Jeonnam in the Forest Council, officials from the nonprofit organization Creating Jeonnam in the Forest, and city and county government officials.
The event was held as an opportunity to devise development plans for Creating Jeonnam in the Forest through policy sharing and communication.
The workshop included explanations of the province’s achievements in promoting Creating Jeonnam in the Forest, expert lectures on forest creation and management methods, presentations of best practices by city and county, and discussions on forest healing program operations.
Senior Researcher Song Taegap of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Institute gave a special lecture titled ‘Speaking of the Old Future Forest Garden,’ and Adjunct Professor Ahn Daegun of Dongshin University gave a lecture titled ‘The Forest I Made Changes My Child’s Life,’ communicating the importance of everyday forests.
In addition, best practices from cities and counties such as Yeosu Jangdo Art Forest, Gwangyang Baegunje Scenic Forest, Boseong Green Tea Village Local Market Resident Participation Forest, and Sinan Colored Forest were shared, and in-depth discussions were held on ways to create a boom in tree planting and care in daily life.
The Creating Jeonnam in the Forest Council participating in this event is an advisory body for Creating Jeonnam in the Forest composed of 274 experts in forestry, landscaping, scenery, ecology, and design, playing roles such as technical support for residents’ tree planting and design consultation.
Also, the nonprofit organization Creating Jeonnam in the Forest is a pure civilian organization promoting forest culture movements in daily life, and since 2016, it has continuously pursued the creation of three-generation family gardens every year to encourage filial piety culture and practice family love.
Jung Eunjo, chairman of the nonprofit organization Creating Jeonnam in the Forest, said, “This became an opportunity to re-recognize carbon neutrality and the importance of forests through communication and policy sharing among tree planting organizations,” adding, “We will take the lead so that Creating Jeonnam in the Forest can establish itself as a province-wide citizen practice movement.”
Kim Jaegwang, head of the Forest Conservation Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “The creation and management of forests is important not only for climate change and carbon neutrality but also for enhancing the brand value of the region,” and added, “We will gather wisdom with tree planting organizations to create forests, which are future eco-friendly resources.”
