Travelers on Gyeonggi Dullegil Walk the 'Forbidden 64km National Forest Road'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Nine sections of 64km of national forest roads within the 'Gyeonggi Dullegil,' a walking trail connecting the outskirts of Gyeonggi Province, will be opened to the public.
National forest roads are mountain paths created in state-owned forests, and their use by the general public is restricted for forest protection purposes.
Oh Byung-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province, signed a business agreement titled 'Establishment and Activation of the Gyeonggi Dullegil' with Choi Soo-cheon, Director of the Northern Regional Forest Service, at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office on the 19th.
The Gyeonggi Dullegil was fully opened on the 15th, three years after the basic plan was established in November 2018. The Gyeonggi Dullegil consists of 60 courses across four zones, totaling 863.8km, including nine sections of national forest roads originally created for transporting forest products and forest management.
Accordingly, after finalizing the route at the end of last year, the province held discussions with the Northern Regional Forest Service, which oversees the nine national forest road sections, and completed traffic agreements before the full opening of the Gyeonggi Dullegil.
The nine national forest road sections are: ▲Yeoncheon Godaesan 15km ▲Pocheon Gangssibong 2.6km ▲Gapyeong Hwayasan 7.03km ▲Yangpyeong Bongmisan 3.5km ▲Yangpyeong Danwolsan 12.9km ▲Yangpyeong Deoreongsan 7.7km ▲Yangpyeong Geumwangsan 13km ▲Yangpyeong Galbeondegisan 1.5km ▲Anseong Deokseongsan 0.85km.
Unlike other Gyeonggi Dullegil courses that can be used without prior reservation, travelers must pre-register their plans through the 'National Forest Visit Report' on the Gyeonggi Dullegil website to access these nine national forest road sections.
Group reporting is not allowed; each visitor must report individually.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will actively cooperate in the use of national forest road sections passing through the Gyeonggi Dullegil, support related to forest resource conservation materials and forest interpretation programs, ensure safety on walking trails through insurance enrollment and prevention of illegal activities, and promote guidance and publicity for visitors.
Acting Governor Oh Byung-kwon emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province will work hand in hand with the Northern Regional Forest Service to develop the newly opened Dullegil as a representative non-face-to-face tourism product. To this end, we will do our best in continuous operation and management to provide forest resources conservation as well as closer and safer walking trails and forests."
