The Maduhee Festival is a traditional Ulsan regional play festival, including tug-of-war, which was suspended during the Japanese colonial period and restored in 2013. It has been held annually since 2014.
The 'Maduhee Festival,' canceled last year due to COVID-19, will resume this year. To manage quarantine, the large tug-of-war event is canceled, and only the Maduhee street parade, where ropes are loaded onto carts and moved, will be held, thus scaling down the event.
Since October 19, Ulsan City has been inspecting local festival venues and major tourist experience facilities in connection with the national safety diagnosis and special quarantine measures for the autumn outing season.
Thirty quarantine personnel are deployed throughout the festival site for management. Quarantine inspections such as prohibition of eating and drinking, social distancing, and blocking entry to the festival site for anyone other than those fully vaccinated or with a negative test result are also conducted.
Although Ulsan has recently maintained one of the lowest numbers of COVID-19 confirmed cases nationwide, the city plans to focus on quarantine to prevent re-spread due to events and festivals.
