Gangwon-do Conducts Nation's First 'Urban Wildfire Suppression Pilot Training'
Over 200 Participants Including Large-scale Firefighting Equipment and Wildfire Prevention Specialists

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gangwon Province will conduct the '2021 Urban Wildfire Suppression Demonstration Drill' on the afternoon of the 19th in cooperation with wildfire-related agencies responding to large-scale wildfires.
According to the province, this is the first provincial-level demonstration drill since the opening of the East Coast Wildfire Prevention Center in November 2018, aimed at protecting urban residential areas and surrounding forests along the Namdaecheon riverside in Yangyang-eup in preparation for large-scale wildfires.
The drill includes ▲inspection of integrated wildfire command and initial suppression systems ▲cultivation of emergency response capabilities through comprehensive three-dimensional training between ground and air units ▲improvement of proficiency in mechanized wildfire suppression systems ▲enhancement of manual understanding for specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams ▲and improvement of coordinated suppression systems for wildfire suppression helicopters.
Six helicopters including the Korea Forest Service’s super-large helicopter and leased helicopters, 10 wildfire suppression vehicles, 5 mechanized systems, 6 fire trucks, and over 175 personal suppression equipment items, along with about 200 participants from specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams, fire stations, and military units will take part in the large-scale drill.
