'Exam Site Confusion and Traffic Accidents' Gwangju Police and Firefighters Excel as 'Suneung Assistants'

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] On the 18th, when the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test was held, the Gwangju police and fire department played a significant role as 'CSAT helpers' for the test takers.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency deployed a total of 342 personnel, including traffic and local police, riot police, and model drivers, from 6:00 AM to 8:10 AM to conduct special traffic management.
Most of the transportation requests were from test takers who were about to enter the exam rooms.
A taxi carrying a test taker was involved in a traffic accident around 7:45 AM on Hoijaero in Seo-gu. The test taker, facing the risk of being late, got into a patrol car and barely made it into the exam room two minutes before the entrance deadline.
Around the same time, a test taker who was having difficulty entering on time at the Anbo Hall intersection in Buk-gu, Gwangju, requested help from the police. The police transported the test taker by patrol car to Seoseok High School, the test site, assisting the test taker’s timely entry.
Earlier, around 7:25 AM, a traffic accident occurred at an intersection in front of an apartment in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu, involving a vehicle carrying a test taker and a city bus. A police officer patrolling nearby witnessed the accident, took emergency action on site, and then transported the test taker by patrol car to Gwangju Girls' High School, the test location.
At about 7:05 AM, a test taker who mistakenly arrived at Dongseong High School was transported by patrol car to Daeseong Girls' High School.
Test takers facing the risk of being late due to morning traffic congestion were also able to enter safely with the help of police patrol motorcycles.
At around 8:00 AM, after receiving a report from a test taker in Musan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, who was having difficulty entering on time due to traffic congestion in front of the Trade Center, the police immediately placed the test taker on a police motorcycle and sped from Usangyo to Bomun High School to assist with entry.
Also, at about 8:10 AM, when a 112 emergency call was received from a test taker near Baegun Intersection in Nam-gu reporting difficulty entering on time, the police rode a patrol motorcycle from Nam-gu Office to Jeonnam Girls' High School to assist the test taker’s movement.
Additionally, the police provided convenience to test takers facing issues such as not bringing their admission tickets.
At around 7:05 AM, a test taker visited Dongun Police Substation requesting to borrow a watch. A police officer lent the wristwatch he had, helping the test taker to take the exam safely.
Then, at about 7:42 AM, police found a test taker at the back gate of Jangdeok High School in Gwangsan-gu who could not enter the school due to missing an admission ticket. The police accompanied the test taker to the exam headquarters to issue a temporary admission ticket.
At around 7:50 AM, at the Mudeung Middle School intersection, a mother of a test taker requested help because her daughter had left her ID at home.
The police took the mother in a patrol car and delivered the ID at Pungam High School.
On this day, the police safely transported 11 test takers to their exam sites and provided five convenience services such as delivering admission tickets.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters also provided emergency services for a total of 11 test takers.
According to the Gwangju Fire Headquarters, two test takers at the Gwangju CSAT sites were transported to hospitals that day.
One test taker taking the exam complained of anxiety and hyperventilation around 10:44 AM and was transported to Gwangju Hospital, and at 2:47 PM, another test taker complained of stomach cramps and was transported to Gidok Hospital.
Nine test takers showing symptoms such as sore throat, headache, and abdominal pain at the exam sites received on-site emergency treatment including fever checks from paramedics deployed on site,
and among them, one test taker with a fever and cough symptoms was transported to a separate exam site to take the test.
