Jinju City Completes 'Jinjuseong Bukjangdae Repair Work'... Promotion to Cultural Heritage Status Underway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, held a completion ceremony for the 'Jinjuseong Bukjangdae Restoration Project' on the morning of the 18th.
Last year, the city confirmed that the foundation stone of Bukjangdae within Jinjuseong had tilted, and carried out wall reinforcement and Bukjangdae restoration with a budget of 506 million KRW (47 million KRW from the national government, 226 million KRW from the provincial government, and 233 million KRW from the city government).
During the dismantling of Bukjangdae, a ridge beam inscription written by Lee Gyo-jun, the Gyeongsang Right Military Commander in 1864 (the first year of King Gojong's reign), and a restoration record by Shin Young-hoon, a Cultural Heritage Administration committee member during the 1971 Bukjangdae restoration, were discovered and are currently temporarily stored at the National Jinju Museum.
The ridge beam inscription, which can be considered a building record, is historically important as it accurately reveals the construction date, participants in the project, and other circumstances of the time.
