According to the Countermeasure Committee on the 18th, at the resolution rally, it was resolved to strongly oppose the relocation of the military airport, stating that the candidate site for the military airport is located in the center of Muan-gun, and the noise damage from fighter jets will affect not only some parts of the candidate site but the entire Muan-gun area, clearly causing adverse effects on tourism resources and the food industry.
Kim Chan-il, chairman of the Illo-eup Countermeasure Committee, refuted the content of the 6th Comprehensive Airport Development Plan announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), which changed its stance from promoting the activation of Muan Airport to linking the relocation of Gwangju Civil Airport with the relocation of the military airport in September, criticizing MOLIT for overstepping its authority into the Ministry of National Defense’s affairs regarding the military airport relocation and deceiving the residents of Muan-gun.
He added, “We will continue to strongly demand, together with residents and organizations, the suspension of the military airport relocation project that forces unilateral sacrifice and damage on the residents of Muan-gun until it is stopped.”
Meanwhile, on the 23rd, 22 residents of Illo-eup plan to visit the Gwangju Songjeong-ri Fighter Airfield to directly experience the noise damage site and continue the movement opposing the relocation of the military airport.
