[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Recently, 68 confirmed cases occurred at a nursing hospital in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and the quarantine authorities have been put on alert as an employee of a nursing hospital in Gwangsan-gu tested positive after coming into contact with confirmed cases from other cities and provinces.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 18th, among the confirmed cases reported the previous day, case number 5704 was identified as an employee of a nursing hospital in Gwangsan-gu, prompting the quarantine authorities to conduct a full investigation of the nursing hospital.
Case 5704 was classified as a close contact of Bucheon case number 7295, underwent testing, and was confirmed positive.
The quarantine authorities conducted a full investigation of 488 individuals, including nursing hospital staff, residents, and contacts of case 5704, and one additional person was confirmed positive. Ten others are awaiting test results.
The affected ward has been placed under cohort isolation until the 26th. The period may be adjusted if additional confirmed cases occur.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases with unknown infection routes is increasing in the Gwangju area.
As of 2 p.m. on the day, 16 people were confirmed positive, of whom 11 were symptomatic testers.
One case each was confirmed related to a large workplace in Gwangsan-gu and an elementary school in Gwangsan-gu ahead of quarantine release, and three cases were related to confirmed cases from other cities and provinces.
