View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Murim Paper, a leading eco-friendly paper company in Korea, is hosting the 'Murim Paper KOREAN CUP Paper Airplane Competition' again this year.
This event aims to provide an opportunity for the public to enjoy small-scale activities with family or acquaintances during the phased return to normal life under 'With Corona.' To prevent infections from large gatherings, this year’s competition will be held in a non-face-to-face (Ontact) format.
Murim Paper’s paper airplane competition is the only official sports event of its kind in Korea. Typically, about 3,000 participants gather, and the winner demonstrating outstanding skills receives an official champion record certificate issued by the Korea Paper Airplane Association. Despite concerns that last year’s event might be canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, it was held in an Ontact format, easing the disappointment of enthusiasts and gaining attention as a unique event by a paper manufacturing company.
This year, the competition has expanded to three categories to allow participants to enjoy it more easily and diversely, and the prizes have been made more abundant.
In particular, the ticket to visit the 'Paper Airplane World Championship (2022 Red Bull Paper Wings World Final)' awarded to the winner of the 'Longest Flight' category is a hot topic. The winner of this year’s longest flight category will have the opportunity to broaden their horizons with the Korean national team 'WePlay' at the world championship held next year in Austria, Europe, with all expenses sponsored by Murim Paper.
Enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting the competition immediately started applying as soon as the official Murim Paper Paper Airplane Competition website opened. The challenge kit box set given on a first-come, first-served basis (including 30 sheets of official folding paper, 1 assembled airplane, 2 masks for infection prevention, and 2 folding cards) was completely sold out within one day of opening.
The '2021 Murim Paper KOREAN CUP Paper Airplane Competition' consists of three categories: Longest Flight, which measures flight airtime; 'Together Challenge,' where multiple participants pass paper airplanes to each other; and 'Target Challenge,' which involves hitting or passing through specific targets. Participants can take on the challenges individually at their preferred locations, record their attempts on video, and upload them with the required hashtags to their personal SNS and the official competition website.
Any Korean citizen can apply and participate, and all participants who upload challenge videos will receive a prize (GS25 mobile coupon). The deadline for video submissions is the 12th of next month.
Murim Paper prioritized participant convenience and enjoyment for this year’s '2021 Murim Paper KOREAN CUP Paper Airplane Competition.' For the challenge missions, participants can now print the 'official paper' directly from the competition website without having to receive it by mail. Generous prizes such as tickets to the world championship and signed books from the national team have also been prepared.
A Murim Paper representative said, "We hope people enjoy the charm of paper airplanes with family and friends without any burden and create a healthy process of returning to normal life."
