Germany Reports 52,000 New COVID-19 Cases... 'Record High'
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Germany recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases ever.
According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Germany on the 17th (local time), the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Germany the previous day was 52,826, an increase of 13,150 compared to a week ago, marking a record high.
The number of hospitalizations per 100,000 people over the past week also rose to 4.86.
The German government is accelerating additional vaccinations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Thomas Mertens, chair of the German Standing Committee on Vaccination, said, "The vaccination committee plans to recommend additional vaccinations for all adults aged 18 and over."
Currently, the German Standing Committee on Vaccination only recommends additional vaccinations for seniors aged 70 and above, nursing home residents, and medical and caregiving personnel.
