Jeju Coast Guard Conducts Training for Marine Pollution Spill Response
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Jo Yunman) announced that on the 17th at 2 p.m., a training exercise was conducted at the dedicated pier for maritime police vessels at Jeju Port to strengthen mutual cooperation systems and accident response capabilities in preparation for marine pollutant spill accidents.
The training, attended by about 20 personnel including Jeju Maritime Police Marine Pollution Prevention Division, rescue team, and pollution control vessels, involved exercises on sealing hull breaches and installing oil fences in preparation for marine pollution accidents.
The training was conducted by simulating a hypothetical situation where oil leaks from a hull breach caused by a ship collision, aiming to share emergency pollution control techniques such as sealing hull breaches between pollution control forces and rescue teams, and to strengthen mutual cooperation systems and accident response capabilities through repeated drills.
The main training contents included ▲emergency sealing measures using hull breach sealing training kits ▲blocking with magnetic pads on the breached side ▲installation of oil fences to prevent marine pollution spread ▲sharing of emergency pollution control techniques, thereby enhancing initial response capabilities through various exercises.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “This training is conducted twice a year,” and added, “We will do our best to strengthen accident response capabilities through repeated realistic training and minimize damage caused by oil spills into the marine environment.”
