Jeonnam Fire Department Strengthens On-Site Crew Skills and Ensures Safety to Achieve Two Goals at Once
Utilization of 'Hwajae Simulator' Production
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department is making every effort to enhance the understanding of fire among on-site personnel, thereby strengthening response capabilities and ensuring the safety of the personnel, achieving two goals at once.
Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 17th that it will produce and utilize a fire simulator (nicknamed Pigeon House) to strengthen the fire suppression capabilities of on-site personnel.
For personnel deployed to fire scenes, understanding the characteristics of fire is extremely important. This is not only crucial for fire response capabilities but even more so for the safety of the personnel.
The newly developed ‘fire simulator’ is designed to understand the characteristics of fire through fire tests using a scaled-down model. The exterior is made of steel, and the interior is constructed by replacing plywood panels.
The model replicates an actual building or house and is divided into four rooms, assuming a fire occurs in a specific room, allowing observation of the fire progression process (ignition-growth-decay-extinction).
It also allows confirmation of the flow of fire and smoke inside the building due to the fire, and the observation of special fire phenomena such as backdraft, flashover, and rollover that may occur during the fire development process.
Jeonnam Fire Department plans to help on-site personnel understand the process of fire growth and strengthen their ability to respond to special fire phenomena that can pose risks to firefighters during actual suppression activities.
Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, “When entering the scene, there are many cases where the overall situation is not recognized, and difficulties arise in an instant. It is necessary to cultivate the ability to understand the progression of fire and respond to emergency situations.”
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Fire School (Principal Seo Seungho) will use the fire simulator to conduct on-site fire characteristic training for fire suppression personnel and rescue teams from 18 fire stations.
