Hyundai Steel Included in the 2021 'DJSI World Index'
The Only Domestic Steel Industry Member Included in DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index)
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Hyundai Steel has been recognized as a leading steel company in ESG management by being included in the DJSI World index for four consecutive years.
On the 16th, Hyundai Steel announced that it was included in the highest grade 'DJSI World' index in the '2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI)' evaluation, which assesses corporate sustainability.
In the 2021 DJSI evaluation targeting the top 2,500 global companies based on free-float market capitalization, a total of 21 domestic companies were included in the World index, with Hyundai Steel being the only company from the domestic steel industry. Hyundai Steel was especially recognized for improvements in safety and health management, human rights evaluation, and strategic workforce planning.
As part of accident prevention efforts, Hyundai Steel has invested higher budgets and manpower compared to its industry peers to reduce accident rates, and expanded human rights evaluations, previously conducted only at overseas sites, to domestic sites as well, broadening the scope of employee human rights protection.
Thus, Hyundai Steel has been included in the DJSI World index for four consecutive years, and also achieved inclusion in the DJSI Asia Pacific index for 13 consecutive years and the DJSI Korea index for four consecutive years.
The DJSI evaluation is actually used as a standard for comparing corporate sustainability levels and responsible investing, and since 2021, detailed ESG evaluation results, previously provided only to individual companies, have been disclosed to external investors through the S&P Global website.
Earlier, in October, Hyundai Steel was recognized for its excellent sustainability management system by receiving an upgraded A grade in the 2021 ESG evaluation announced by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) compared to the previous year.
