Incheon Namdong-gu Develops Women-Friendly Public Facility Guidelines
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon announced on the 16th that it has completed the production of guidelines to reflect a women-friendly perspective when creating public facilities.
The Women-Friendly Public Facility Guidelines are standards that consider socially vulnerable groups from the planning stage of new construction and reconstruction projects, ensuring residents' accessibility, convenience, and safety. A total of 125 indicators were finalized, combining 60 mandatory and 65 recommended items.
The indicators proposed by the Women-Friendly City Resident Participation Group were all reflected, and notably, five unique indicators specific to Namdong-gu, which cannot be seen in other local governments, were developed.
The distinctive indicators include ▲adjusting the spacing between handrail posts when installing safety fences on slopes within walking trails ▲installing sign blocks with preemptive awareness phrases to prevent illegal filming on bus stop floors ▲establishing a button-type alarm system to ensure safety in affiliated parking lots ▲installing elevators in public buildings with a building area of 200㎡ or more and two or more floors ▲attaching shock-absorbing cushioning facilities to building corners to prevent injuries.
To produce the guidelines, the Women-Friendly City Resident Participation Group derived comprehensive results through four workshops and three rounds of on-site monitoring, based on which they proposed policies.
Subsequently, a guideline task force consisting of 15 practitioners from 10 departments of the district office participated in the production from the draft to the final version, based on the policy proposals of the resident participation group and their practical experience, achieving a nonstop production process including interdepartmental consultations.
The district plans to publish the guidelines as a booklet so that all employees can actively utilize them when creating public facilities.
