[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County, Jeonnam (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) attracted attention by promoting Haenam specialties through an online exchange meeting with Yiwu City, China, a world-renowned international trade city.

According to the county on the 15th, on the 14th, an exchange meeting titled "Together with Neighbors, Together with Yiwu" between Haenam County and Yiwu City was held with about 10 officials attending, including Haenam County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan, Wang Wei, Standing Committee Member of the Yiwu City Party and Vice Mayor of Yiwu City Government, Ge Qiaodi, Vice Mayor of Yiwu City Government, Zhang Chenggang, Consul General of China in Guangzhou, and Shin Kyung-sook, Chairman of the Korea-China Economic and Cultural Education Association.

This exchange meeting was held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19, drawing attention as it overcame the stagnation of international exchanges and presented a pioneering direction.

Haenam County operated a Haenam Promotion Hall and promoted 17 types of Haenam specialties through live streaming, and held an event using the Haenam Smile QR code, providing rice and gim, representative foods of Haenam County, as gifts.

In fact, about 110,000 people accessed the live streaming event of the exchange meeting in just 17 minutes, reflecting explosive interest in Haenam agricultural products, marking a successful first step for the exchange meeting.

Starting with this international exchange with Yiwu City, Haenam County plans to actively establish Haenam’s status in line with the global era and lay the foundation for building various distribution infrastructures for local governments.

With the recent increase in consumption of eco-friendly agricultural products in the Chinese market and investments by Chinese entrepreneurs, exchanges between Yiwu City and Haenam County are expected to create synergy effects in various fields.

The county plans to actively promote export of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products and tourism-centered economic exchanges to strengthen its global image and international competitiveness.

Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “I hope this event will be a strong starting point for friendship and cooperation between Yiwu City and Haenam County, and we plan to establish a system that can actively promote mutually beneficial exchanges in various fields.”
