Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Basic Practical Training and Adaptation Education for Riot Police
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Maritime Police Station (Chief Hwang Junhyun) announced on the 15th that it will conduct basic practical training and adaptation training for the 416th unit, the last group of maritime police conscripts, until the 19th.
They enlisted at the Jinhae Naval Basic Military Training Unit on the 5th of last month, completed six weeks of basic military training including small inflatable boat (IBS) and comprehensive maritime survival training, and were assigned to respective maritime police stations.
The 10 new conscripted police officers assigned to Seogwipo Maritime Police Station will be trained as auxiliary maritime security forces with a strong sense of national duty and mission through various safety accident prevention education and work experience during their standby period at the police station.
Maritime police conscripts have been continuing since the first maritime combat police unit enlisted in February 1971. However, due to the complete abolition of alternative service, the quota has been gradually reduced by 20% annually since 2018, and with the recruitment of the 416th unit being the last, the system will operate only until June 2023.
Son Sehun, a conscripted police officer of the 416th unit, said, “I will complete my service as a proud Republic of Korea maritime police conscript who overcomes difficult and challenging tasks wisely by successfully completing practical and adaptation training at the police station.”
