Gwangju University Wins 8 Awards Including Grand Prize at 'World Food Championship'

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyuk-jong) announced on the 15th that students from the Cooking Mind club of the Department of Hotel Food and Beverage Culinary Arts won eight awards, including the Grand Prize and Excellence Award, at the '2021 KOREA World Food Championship.'
The '2021 KOREA World Food Championship' is the largest competition held domestically, with over 3,000 participants across more than 30 categories. It is held annually in the second half of the year to share various information for training world-class food cooking and processing professionals and for the globalization of Korean cuisine.
Gwangju University, which won one Grand Prize and three Gold Awards at last year's competition, received one Grand Prize, one Excellence Award, five Gold Awards, and one Silver Award this year, gaining attention as a professional chef training institute.
Kim Yuri (4th year), who won the Grand Prize at this competition, participated in the live restaurant cooking category and received favorable reviews.
Also, Kim Gwi-im (4th year), who won the Excellence Award in the pastry exhibition category, and Kim Seon-tae (3rd year), who won five Gold Awards in the Western cuisine category, along with five others, and Ryu Ga-hee (2nd year), who won the Silver Award in the cake exhibition category, also received positive evaluations.
Seo Kyung-do, head of the Department of Hotel Food and Beverage Culinary Arts at Gwangju University, said, "Our university has experience winning awards in many domestic competitions," adding, "We will continue to actively support our students to achieve excellent results."
