Seoul City Reports 978 New COVID-19 Cases, 27 Fewer Than Previous Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 14th that the number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul was recorded at 978 on the 13th. This is 27 fewer than the 1,005 cases reported the previous day (12th) and 130 more than the 848 cases reported a week earlier (6th).
The daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul reached a record high of 1,221 on September 24, then dropped to 298 on the 18th of last month, before rising again to 1,004 on the 2nd of this month. Since then, the number has fluctuated between 600 and 1,000, with over 1,000 cases reported on the 10th and 12th.
The positivity rate on the 13th (the ratio of confirmed cases to tests conducted the previous day) was 1.2%, down from 1.4% the day before. The number of tests conducted was 61,429, which is 20,388 fewer than the 81,817 tests conducted the previous day. Among the new confirmed cases, 969 were domestic infections and 9 were imported cases. By age group, the highest proportions were in their 60s (20.2%), 70 and older (19.8%), 50s (14.7%), and 40s (11.5%), in that order.
A cluster infection occurred at a hospital in Gangdong-gu, with a total of 59 confirmed cases so far. The first confirmed case was a hospitalized patient on the 10th, followed by 14 staff members, 31 patients, and 13 caregivers testing positive. The Seoul Metropolitan Government is conducting epidemiological investigations to classify contacts and is performing comprehensive testing on staff, patients, and caregivers. Movement between floors within the hospital has been prohibited, and the ward where cases were confirmed will undergo follow-up testing every two days. Additionally, related cluster infection cases reported new confirmed cases the previous day: 15 at a hospital in Dongdaemun-gu, 11 at a market in Dongdaemun-gu, and 7 at an elderly care facility in Eunpyeong-gu.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul stands at 131,809, with 13,858 patients currently in isolation and treatment. Seven additional deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 876.
