Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Hold Discussion on Factors Behind the Success of 'Ojingeo Game' on the 13th
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 12th that it will hold a policy forum titled "What Makes Squid Game Different?" at 1 p.m. on the 13th at the Prime Hall of Sookmyung Women's University Second Founding Campus, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korean Broadcasting Society.
Recently, with the global success of "Squid Game" as a turning point, the corporate value of Netflix has risen, and content has become a key factor determining the competitiveness of OTT platforms, leading to active domestic and international investment in Korean content. OTT original content is produced with diverse themes and free formats not previously covered in traditional broadcasting, differentiating it from conventional broadcast video content. As OTT content produced in Korea is distributed through overseas OTT platforms, global interest in Korea and Korean culture as a whole is increasing.
In line with this trend, this forum will review OTT original content planning cases and production sites with OTT and broadcast content experts and discuss policy measures.
Yoon Shinae, CEO of Studio 329, will present on the topic "Differentiation Strategies in OTT Original Content Planning," discussing specific planning cases, characteristics of OTT content planning and creation, and support measures for revitalization.
Ko Joongseok, CEO of Eggiscoming, will address "Comparison of Video Content Production Processes between OTT Platforms and Traditional Media," covering competitive advantages of OTT original content production, applicability to the domestic production industry, and policy proposals based on on-site production experience.
Following this, a comprehensive discussion will be moderated by Professor Choi Hyunju of Keimyung University. Along with the two presenters, Professor Kim Misook of Catholic Kwandong University, Jeon Seonggwan, president of the Korea PD Association, and Choi Kyunghui, research team leader at the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, will participate as discussants.
The forum will be broadcast live online through the official YouTube channel of the Korean Broadcasting Society, accessible to anyone.
