Xiaomi Aims Globally by Changing Chipset in 'Redmi Note 11'
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Xiaomi's new smartphone series, the 'Redmi Note 11,' is expected to be launched globally early next year with a new design and chipset.
On the 11th (local time), IT media outlet GSM Arena reported that Xiaomi will change the application processor (AP) of the Redmi Note 11 to Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset and release it worldwide in the first quarter of next year. Xiaomi is also known to be planning a design change along with the chipset replacement.
Xiaomi's flagship smartphone, the Redmi Note, was officially unveiled in China on the 28th of last month. Following the 'Redmi Note 10' series released in March, the successor was launched after seven months with three models: ▲Redmi Note 11 ▲Redmi Note 11 Pro ▲Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus. The Redmi Note series features a 120Hz refresh rate, and the pro-level models are equipped with a 108-megapixel main camera.
The Redmi Note 11 series, initially released with a MediaTek Dimensity chipset, is expected to switch to Qualcomm's Snapdragon products in the future, with the Snapdragon 778G Plus or Snapdragon 695 being the most likely candidates. Although the exact reason for switching to Snapdragon chipsets has not been clearly disclosed, according to Vietnamese IT tipster Chun (@chunvn8888), it is presumed to be due to Xiaomi's shortage of Dimensity chipset supply.
Xiaomi has openly declared its goal to surpass Samsung Electronics, the world's number one smartphone manufacturer, within the next three years by emphasizing cost-effective products and is focusing on global market expansion. Especially since last year, Xiaomi has rapidly increased its market share by filling the gap left by Huawei. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi achieved first place in the global smartphone market for the first time in June with a 17.1% market share, surpassing Samsung Electronics' 15.7%. Xiaomi operates three brands: the premium 'Xiaomi,' the mid-to-low-end lineup 'Redmi,' and the sub-brand 'Poco.'
Although its presence in the domestic market is minimal, Xiaomi continues to knock on the door by consistently releasing new products. Following the Redmi Note 10 series in March and the 'Redmi Note 10 5G' in August, Xiaomi officially launched the LTE smartphone 'Redmi 10' domestically just yesterday.
The budget smartphone Redmi 10 features the MediaTek Helio G88 processor as its AP, enhancing mobile performance with a fast GPU. The display is a large 6.5-inch screen with FHD+ resolution and supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The Redmi 10 is equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera, the first in the series, a 5000mAh battery, and comes with a 22.5W charger that supports 18W fast charging.
