Dobong-gu's 'Music City' Symbol Sculpture Installed...Nation's First LED-lit Bridge Pier Featuring 'Reply 1988' Song Sheet Music
Creation of a Square Busking Stage for Young Musicians and Installation of Elevated Overpass Landscape Lighting... The Under-Overpass Sculpture Will Be Unveiled to Residents with a Lighting Ceremony at 6 PM on the 15th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) has transformed the somewhat dark east side underpass of Changdong Station into a unique public cultural space of the "Music City Changdong" by installing pier sculptures, a busking stage, and landscape lighting on the upper structure of the overpass.
The installed underpass sculptures are scheduled to be unveiled to residents with a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. on the 15th.
The district incorporated the representative sheet music of the drama "Reply 1988," which is set in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, into the four pier sculptures under the overpass to embody the image of a music city. Inside the sculptures, LED lights were installed to create different lighting effects over time under the overpass.
In particular, by scanning the QR code at the bottom of the sheet music with a mobile phone, the music from the sheet music can be played on YouTube, sparking curiosity and interest among residents.
At the center of the four pier sculptures, a busking stage was created for young musicians to perform freely. Additionally, landscape lighting was installed from Seed Station to the Changdong OPCD section under the overpass, creating a bright and warm nighttime scenery.
The installed sculptures are the nation's first patented sculptures attempted after numerous reviews and consultations during the design process. The sculptures can be opened and closed, making facility management easy. By adding design to the neglected pier columns, the project significantly improves the urban landscape.
This creation of a public cultural space under the Changdong Station overpass is a model case of transforming the subway structure's underpass space into a place full of rest and emotion. It is expected to promote "Music City Changdong" through the influx of residents and musicians via busking operations and serve as a driving force for revitalizing the existing commercial district in Changdong.
