Police Draw Sword Against Diesel Exhaust Fluid 'Hoarding'... Two Cases Reported in Busan, Investigation Underway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan police have received their first complaint regarding hoarding of urea water and have launched an investigation.
As China has blocked exports, causing a nationwide shortage of urea water, the police have taken action against hoarding practices that trigger price surges.
On the 10th, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they are swiftly investigating two complaints?one involving a gas station and another involving an auto repair shop?and plan to take legal action if hoarding charges are proven.
On the 9th, a large quantity of urea water was found stored at a bathroom supplies wholesale company in Gangseo-gu, Busan, and was reported to the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office.
According to the police, the Environmental Office received a tip that a large warehouse operated by the bathroom supplies wholesaler was storing a significant amount of urea water. Upon inspection, 3,750 liters of urea water were discovered.
The warehouse contained 375 containers of 10 liters each covered by a tarp. The types of urea water found included BlueTec, White 100, and Yurox, among others.
The amount of urea water discovered is said to be enough for about 70 cargo trucks to use for approximately one month.
The company denied the hoarding charges, stating, "Gas stations cannot store large quantities of urea water at once, so we have been storing it in the warehouse."
The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office reviewed the company’s previous year’s urea water distribution records and sales figures and suspected hoarding, leading to the police complaint.
